On offer is an early Buddha image from Dvaravati period (6-11th century) in Central Thailand. Made of stucco with an unfinished back suggesting its original use in architectural context. The Dvaravati period is the onset of the Buddhism image seen in Thailand circa 6-9th century AD. At the beginning of this period, the Buddhism image is highly influenced by the Hindu iconography from India; later on the image took on a local characteristic by displaying a more typical Mon style with broad face, large curls hair and bridged eyebrows. Many of these images were made of stone, stucco and terracotta and used to adorn the religious buildings.
