Antique Khotan rugs and carpets were produced in Western China. Khotan or Hotan as some call it is an oasis town on the edge of the Taklamakan desert. It is an area where water means life and for ages people live where the Oasis’ make it possible.
Typically, these are long and narrow with simple spacious designs woven with a glossy wool. They are heavily influenced by the neighboring countries of China and Turkey and have been produced in this region since at leas the 17th century.
