One of the earliest Antique English Mason’s ironstone imari decor Sauce Tureens, in the highly collected “oyster pattern” but more generally known as an imari decor. This tureen is bright and clear with little wear. It does have a tight, structurally sound hairline which is illustrated fully (and which is why this sauce tureen isn’t far more expensive.) It has both on the underside of the lid and on the base, Mason’s ironstone’s earliest impressed marks, “Mason’s Patent Ironstone China”. The cobalt blue, Chinese red and gilt highlights are crisp and clear and the interior of the tureen is very clean showing little or no use. Please note the wonderful cobalt and gilt handles and scrolling knop style finial.
