A Superb French Cartonnier. Made from Oak, containing 20 original green leather fall front box files with decorative brass stud handles, the side locking bars are in full working order and come complete with key. C1890
The Cartonnier is an early form of filing cabinet comprising compartments containing leather-fronted cardboard boxes. It first appeared under Louis XVI and became popular under Louis Philippe, especially in the offices of lawyers and notaries.
This cabinet is in original condition, with excellently preserved boxes, would make a lovely office or home storage.
