Vintage Design
This rare center table was produced in Germany in the late 1920s. Although the maker and designer remain unknown, the high level of craftsmanship and choice of material make this an exceptional occasional table. The originality of the design perfectly illustrates the duality of the 1920s German Art Deco movement, which embraced contemporary Expressionism but also reflect back on earlier styles such as Biedermeier and even Baroque. The design is characterized by the elegant octagonal shape of the top and of the lower placed shelf. The top with a slightly raised edge is veneered in a sunburst pattern, giving the piece a refined and lively appearance. The eight inward leaning legs with curved stretchers and ending in hoof feet. The table is fully executed in flamed birch. Two pull-out drawers placed on opposite ends. The table is in overall very good condition, some minor marks and scratches from previous use on the lacquer finish on the top.
