A truly staggering piece of furniture, I would say this seats up to 14-16 people with ease and up to 20 with a squeeze, it truly is a magnificent size and a real statement piece in any home. The great thing about a table of this magnitude, especially the width, is you have the space to lay out an entire banquet down the middle of the table and it doesn’t affect the tableware of the people sitting either side, so often with large family dinners you have to compromise on personal comfort to make room for bowls and dishes, that would never be a problem with this table
The table was sold to the last owner in the 1990s, it was imported from in Indian during the height of the Anglo Indian export period, by repute it was a magistrates table hence the size
The paint finish is original and distressed, most likely the timber is all reclaimed and was used on huge temple doors or some other grand building. The table has been used by family’s over the decades, as such there will be added patina, all of which will enhance the look and feel, the only noticeable patina that I can spot on very close inspection is a little girl has missed the paper when playing with some purple star stamps, I saw one or two at one end, I haven’t tried to clean them off
