Vintage Design
This in an original dining chair by renowned Thonet Company produced in the 1930’s. This piece can be found in the Thonet sales catalogues as model number A 524. This particular chair is believed to be produced by the Thonet company in one of their factories in former Czechoslovakia.
This model has a pared back form with nicely shaped back legs and a wide seat. On the backrest, there is a lovely walnut texture, whilst the beech legs has a chocolate brown colour. This piece is a lovely example of Thonet moving away from their decorative pieces in the late 1930’s to simple Modernist forms that celebrate the raw beauty of the wood.
The chair has been recently completely refurbished to their former glory and have minimal wear. Our experienced restorer has carried the restoration to the highest standard, using only the original techniques and reviving the beautiful natural pattern of both the seat and the backrest which were subsequently finished by hand in Shellac varnish.
