Vintage Design
The lacquered iron base of this chair with its distinct grashopper inspired legs was also used by Oberman for an armless lounge chair version, as well as a version with wooden armrests. This particular chair is the first one we’ve come across with a fully upholstered shell, with generously sized armrests. The upholstered shell is placed at an angle on the base, creating a striking and dynamic silhouette. The playful, geometric lines of the design make this an excellent example of Dutch Mid-Century Modern design at its best.
The chair is in overall very good condition. It has been upholstered in a two-tone gray wool fabric, with the loose back and seat cushion in a slightly darker tone of gray. The fabric is in good condition. The iron base with minor wear and patina consistent with age and use.
