Vintage Design
This exceptional and rare pair of Italian 18th century Louis XVI period wall mounted consoles are finely hand carved, sculpted and gilded with gold leaf gilding. These large neoclassical consolle brackets boast a very unusual shape and sculptural carvings throughout. The white Carrara marble on top is original to the piece and is a very valuable and sleek variety of Tuscan marble with shaded taupe veins. The square shape of the hexagonal top is softened by deep rope-shaped carvings and small acanthus leaves and sinuously rounds downwards. Here, the eyes are immediately drawn to the acanthus leaves-carved bold voluted centered by a blooming flower. The sculptural pine cone as finial, proof of great cabinetmaking mastery, takes up the geometric design of the consoles’ top. The large scale pinecone, deeply hand carved and ornate with pointed tips, is surrounded by stylized leaves. These furnishings will certainly be the focal point and a conversation piece in every home of discerning and sophisticated collectors who love and appreciate timeless precious one of a kind objects.
