Extraordinary quality and design – Mid-Century Modern – crackle glaze ceramic lamp with original solid oak base/cap/finial and fittings – marked on the ceramic base – Made in Japan – impressed multi character Japanese mark – circa 1940. The harp is original to the lamp and is fixed – original shade (probably recovered with the present paper backed faux linen).

Excellent vintage condition – no loss – no damage – no repairs – minor finish loss to the wood surfaces – grime and paint/finish loss to the harp and socket – a couple of minor stains to the shade – yellowing of the paper backing on the shade – ready to use.

Near Pair of Hand Painted Asian Style Table Lamps – Schumacher Furnishings

Mid 20th C. a near pair of large Anglo-Japanese style table lamps with white pleated shades. The vase shaped lamps are mounted on an ebonised wood base. Both have domed brass inserts in the mount of the top of the vase to support the light light bulb socket, harp and shade. The bottle green ground serves to highlight lovely hand painted flora and fauna decoration in golds and browns tones.

At first glance these lamps to be a matching pair. Upon closer inspection you will notice that one is porcelain and the other has a turned wood body. Both have a Schumacher Furnishings label on the bulb socket, a division of F. Schumacher & Co. The Schumacher furniture department confirmed to me that they are of some age and have been long since discontinued. Unfortunately they did not have any additional information to provide. Each has a LEVITON turn wheel in line on off switch. These switches were manufactured between 1950 and 1959.

Looking closely at the lamps, it appears that the porcelain lamp was the original piece and the turned wood rendition was made to match. The painting on both is of almost exact composition but there are small differences in scale and colouration.

Condition:
Good. Lamp bodies are very clean with no losses observed. Color has been very well retained. The shades are in good condition overall with some small spots of possibly rust stains (please see photographs) . Show well.

This pair of unmatched antique lamps are unsigned, but presumed to have originated from Japan and date to approximately 1920 and done in an Anglo-Japanese style. These small accent or ‘boudoir’ lamps may have once been vases, and are composed of solid brass with both incised and cloisonnae decoration. The lamps both are on bases with figural dolphin feet on a brass toned pedestal.
