“Road to Mandalay”, is a magnificent and very large, limited edition, handmade and hand painted Lladro porcelain sculpture by artist Vicente Martinez. It depicts a beautifully costumed elephant transporting an Indian wedding couple who are shaded by a large umbrella and a driver seated on the elephant’s head.
Number 587 of a limited edition of only 750 in the world and highly collectable, “Road to Mandalay” (Spanish, “Elefante Real S.L.”) was issued in 1982 and retired in 1988 by the famous Spanish porcelain manufacturer, Lladro. A “Road to Mandalay” sold at auction for $11,000.00.
Made of hard paste porcelain with gres finish.
Hallmarked on the bottom with the Lladro hallmark, as well as flat signed, personalized and dated, “9/19/87” by a Lladro artist, and numbered “No. 587″ (See photo).
Measures approximately 20.75” high x 13.75” wide x 9” deep.
Weighs 19.5 pounds.
